From Awakening to Action: Normalizing Inclusion in the Workplace and Beyond

At Relativity Space, our mission and responsibility are to expand the possibilities for the human experience and to build humanity’s multi-planetary future. We believe investing in diversity and inclusion long-term will advance our mission and enable us to build the highest performing team possible. Ultimately, Relativity’s goal is to create and sustain a culture where diversity, equity and inclusion are integrated into our company’s DNA, including a diverse representation of all backgrounds, identities, and perspectives.

We understand that creating an inclusive culture is not passive, finite, nor is it the sole responsibility of our leadership team and HR. Relativity believes every team member is responsible for championing and amplifying diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace. By each of us playing our part, we can ensure that we are building an inclusive culture that drives innovation and high performance as we work towards making history!

FROM AWAKENING TO ACTION

This month, in celebration of Black History Month, here are just a few ways we are taking action to foster an inclusive culture, as well as to celebrate Black changemakers and hidden figures across aerospace, engineering, and space technology:

Fireside Chat + Q&A: Cultivating the Future of Aerospace through the lens of Diversity: This month, Relativity will host an empowering fireside chat featuring a distinguished Black Aerospace professional who will share their career journey, share challenges and obstacles & how they overcame them, and provide insight on how we can move towards more inclusion in Aerospace.

Launch Inclusion 30: Normalizing Inclusion Beyond the Moment: We believe the continued conversation around race and representation is integral to building an inclusive culture where we learn about and from others’ experiences! As a part of Relativity’s Inclusion 30 initiative, we will have a facilitated discussion on moving from awakening to action and normalizing inclusion in the workplace. Beyond Black History Month, this program will help Relativity scale accountability, action, and dialogue around DEI trainings, hold each team accountable, and ensure that inclusive hiring practices are being activated.

Patti Grace Smith Fellowship: Relativity Space recently partnered with the Patti Grace Smith Fellowship, a program dedicated to creating pathways into successful aerospace careers for talented students whose race and ethnicity have made them the subject of systemic bias. Relativity will be hosting four Patti Grace Fellows in our upcoming Summer 2021 internship program!

RENEW Taskforce: Relativity Space is a founding member of the City of LA’s Private Sector Racial Equity and Newly Empowered Workplaces Task Force. As a part of our commitment on the RENEW taskforce team, Relativity is committed to ensuring that at least 15% of new hires are people who identify as Black. RENEW is a coalition committed to rooting out structural racism in businesses and to building a more just, fair, and equitable Los Angeles community! You can learn more about RENEW here

OUR COMMITMENT
At Relativity, we know we have work to do and we are committed to putting forth action, both internally and externally, to continue to champion diversity, equity and inclusion across our company culture and beyond.
